Drake Aumick enlisted with the 7th New Jersey Volunteers on December 13, 1863 for a three year term. According to documentation, he died at the Harewood U.S. Army Hospital in Washington D.C. on June 24, 1864, less than one year into his term.

He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia.
