Farrand Kitchell was a private who enlisted with the 7th New Jersey Volunteer infantry on January 4th, 1864 where he was assigned to Companies K and C. He was captured soon after muster and was sent to Andersonville Prison in Georgia.

While there, he contracted dysentery due to the poor prison conditions and died on September 12, 1864. He was 21 years old.
