Arthur Ford enlisted on February 3, 1864 on a 3-year recruitment. He mustered into the 7th New Jersey Volunteers, Company C.

He was captured only a few months later and was sent to Andersonville Prison in Georgia where he died of scurvy on October 28, 1864.
