Today’s 1st NJ Light Artillery, Battery A attempts to accurately portray a Civil War artillery unit of the Army of the Potomac. We currently field an authentic, full scale 6 pounder that was built in 1844 by the Cyrus Alger Co. of Boston Massachusetts and restored in partnership with the town of Jamesburg, NJ. We attend Parades, Living Histories and Reenactments where we are usually quite popular with the public and have received many compliments on both our portrayal and our gun drill. The unit is engaged in continuing cannon preservation projects and is always looking for dedicated reenactors as well as different settings to display our cannon and educate children and adults about the artillery’s role in the Civil War.
